Website analytics
I collect basic analytics to see which pages are visited and how many times. When you load a page, a small script notes the page and the time.
To avoid counting the same visitor twice in one day, the server creates a daily identifier by combining the IP address with today’s date and a so-called salt, after which it discards the IP. The identifier changes every day, and individual records are deleted after 3 days. Only the total page visits are kept.
I don’t use any of this to identify you, build a profile, track you across sites, target ads, or make decisions about you.
Purpose and lawful basis
I use this to produce daily page-visit statistics and to improve the site.
My lawful basis is legitimate interests: understanding how the site is used while collecting as little information as reasonably possible.
Retention
Individual analytics records and daily identifiers are deleted after 3 days.
The resulting aggregate page counts do not identify individual visitors and are retained indefinitely.
Cookies and browser storage
The analytics does not use cookies, local storage or session storage.
If you opt out, this website sets a cookie named _notrack solely to remember your choice and prevent future analytics events from being sent. The cookie expires after 2 years.
This cookie is not used for analytics, advertising or tracking. If you delete the cookie, use another browser or use another device, you need to opt out again.

Sharing and service providers
I use Cloudflare to host this information on my behalf. The provider may process the information only for providing the relevant service to me and may not use it for its own advertising or profiling purposes.
I do not share the information with anyone else or for any other purposes.
Your rights
You may have rights over your personal information, including to object to processing, request access, deletion or correction, or restrict processing.
Because the daily identifier isn’t linked to your name or contact details and is deleted after aggregation, I may not be able to identify which record is yours.
You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office, though I’d appreciate the chance to address your concern first.
Changes to this notice
I may update this notice if the analytics system or the way the website processes information changes. The latest version will always be published on this page.
